Yes it can be debilitating. Biggest single factor in my miserable life.

Does it manifest itself in different ways? Don't know much about it

I can’t let things go. If I made a bad pick in fantasy football, I’ll dwell on it for days. I had to quit soccer because if I wasn’t scoring at least one goal a game, I felt worthless. I think about things I said ten years ago and feel stupid about it.

Then there’s the stupid trivial phobias like stickers and ketchup that are awful. Stickers on fruit drive me crazy.

I developed OCD around the age of 14. I began obsessing during my years in HS and during my freshman year in college, I began taking Mellarill. My psychiatrist though that I had early stages of schizophrenia but it turned out 20 years later, I had Pure O OCD.

OCD affects about 2 % of the population and stressful situations in childhood can be a precursor to the illness.

You can have periods of no symptoms but medications like Tofranil, anafranil, Paxil, and Prozac are medications used to treat the imbalances if serotonin in the brain. Exercise and diet can help with treatment.

I have been on Paxil for 20 years and my symptoms have improved but are not completely resolved. If I were to get off Paxil, I would need a year or so to reduce the dosage in order to counter withdrawal symptoms. Never go off your meds without a physician helping you.

Never been formally diagnosed, but this has been my problem all of my life. Constantly think about something stupid I said or did 20 years ago. I've ruined relationships over something petty that I couldn't let go. If I start cleaning my house I can't stop. Sweeping up a small mess or wiping the table off leads to a 6 hour cleaning marathon that ends in scrubbing the appliances, windows, etc. If someone moves my personal belongings I will lose my shite, etc. The only way it helps is that my job requires laser like focus for up to 12 hours at a time, and I have it in spades.
