I have motion sensors in the bedrooms to turn off Wi-Fi lights when no movement is detected at certain times of the day. I could have them turn on when they detect motion but there is a few second delay and we haven't felt the need.
I have my lights and security system running through a wink hub we control with a few amazon dots.

We have one in our mudroom. At first I thought I would not like it. But now I love it and would never take it out. I think I have mine set to go off after 4 minutes. You can pick different times. I can walk straight into that room and wash my hands or grab a drink from the fridge without having to worry about turning the light on and off. I drop my shoes off in there and leave the dog leash in there. Same with doing laundry. I'm going in and out of that room all day. It actually saves you money on your electric bill. Our mudroom is right by our backdoor. When I leave in the AM I just wave my hand in the mudroom to trigger the light so I can see. I forgot what sensitivity I have it set at but it instantly turns on when you take one step through the doorway. If you just walk past it in the hallway the light stays off like it should. You can still push the button maunally to turn the light off the old fashion way. I do that every once in awhile. It is so nice having the light automatically turning on though. Easily one of my best home improvements that is very functional I have ever made.

I was thinking the pantry would be handy since you're usually carrying something in or out.
that would probably work well...

Attic is another good spot. I don't have a motion detector up there but I tell alexa to turn on the light before I head up.

I have them on the 4 corners of my house outside. Can't think of a reason I'd want any inside.
