That's when you'll know the republic has truly fallen. The Founders knew, as Lincoln reminded us, that the Constitution would never be ratified if slavery was not allowed. They knew that one day, the issue would have to be addressed. But in order to be able to form the USA, they had to keep slavery intact.
And I'm no Lincoln fan, I think slavery was abhorrent, but I think his most damning thing is that he grew the federal government exponentially in his term as President.

Americans don't know American history, much less World history. We are damn sure are likely to repeat the same mistakes over and over again as a result
