I hear the same with heroine. I grew up with a guy, super smart, a little off, but certainly one of those types that could literally grow up to do anything he felt like. Lawyer, physician, writing, analyst, and he was super funny on top of all that.
We lost touch after high school and about 7 or so years later, the dude apparently got hooked on heroine and ended up in rehab after he was found in a street all junked up halfway across the country.
His family life was more than stable too. Parents very much in love to this day, involved with community. Scary stuff.
People always say they’ll try anything once and this is what I think happened. Very sad

That’s because heroin makes one feel as if they crawled back into their mothers womb. It gives off an incredible sense of security and warmth, totally numbs and blocks all emotions.
