That's a lie. That fire will take 6 hours or more to bring completely under control. I don't know much in life, but I've fought hundreds of fires in a big city.
Hubigs pie fire (1 story took 7 hours)

Dubai authorities say fire in the 63-storey Address Hotel building under control. New Year fireworks display at nearby Burj Khalifa to go on

According to Dubai authorities the difference here is they have a sprinkler system in place.

I don't know much about fires, but I do know that thing is not 90% contained.

There will probably be small fires in the surrounding areas as well. Between the heat and flying embers.

That department is going to be stretched to the max.

Are they talking about the same fire? I just turned on the tv. It looks to be still rolling fully envolved.

6 plus hours. Book it. Plus the 48-72 plus hours of drowning it with water and fire watch after.

JUST IN: At least 16 injured in Dubai hotel fire, officials say LINK

But Dubai officials said everyone was safe? This is starting to cause me to doubt their ability to put this fire out in the next twenty minutes with their state of the art sprinkler system

they said contained. not "out"

contained meaning it's contained to one area and the surrounding areas are safe (90%)

I wonder if the fire was started in the elevator shafts for it to reach all those floors

I know what contained means. I read it wrong.

Yea they say it's contained to one tall standing building because there are no exposures to equal height to any side.
It's not contained completely though.
Embers will travel and cause smaller house fires though.

If that was a jumper, then he's 20' feet tall and has one hell of a broad jump.

Why should they miss out on their celebration? The dead won't care...
