Back around ‘77-‘79, we had two 15 minute recesses where the boys played all against all football with a nerf football. We tackled and jumped on the runners back. The heavyset kids usually required three or four guys to drop the kid to the ground.

P.E. Played soccer, touch flag football, kickball and competed to win Presidents council of fitness patches. I think the requirement in running was to complete a six hundred yard run in under two minutes. You had to do a certain amount of sit-ups and pull-ups and I believe pushups to earn a patch ?

football (mostly touch by then)

Funny how that works. You've got to be an idiot to play tackle football without pads. The moment you know better you basically stop.
