Their job is to arrest people, not be the judge, jury and executioner. They’d be home with their families now instead of facing criminal charges had they not broke the law and abused their power.

It's unfortunate and I am not on the side of the cops, but same goes true for the dead guy. He'd be home with his family now, or maybe in jail, but alive if he had not broke the law. He broke the law and it cost him his life. The cops broke the law and they will get punishment accordingly.
