Just to get this out there now... Lor is retired from the Greene County, Mo. Sheriff's Dept. and this is a medical issue, not something caused by a criminal

Here's Cpl. James Craigmyle & K9 Lor on the Live PD set

A longtime police dog in the Greene County Sheriff's Office, Lor, is reportedly struggling after a surgery.

The department posted on Wednesday evening that Lor had only a 50 percent chance of survival.

"On Monday, January 6th, retired Greene County K9, Lor, was taken to University of Missouri Veterinary School of Medicine with pneumonia and a possible tumor that possibly ruptured his small intestine," the wrote in the post. "Lor underwent surgery and at one point given a less than 50% chance of surviving. As of 5pm this evening, Lor is out of surgery, awake and doing ok. Doctors state at this time, Lor has a 50% chance of survival and will remain in Veterinary care for a week."

Lor just recently retired along with his handler, James Craigmyle. Both are popular not only locally, but across the country because they were featured in the television show "LivePD," which follows law enforcement officers on duty.

After Lor's retirement, the county said he had been deployed roughly 2,000 times.

A news release lauded his "amazing tracking/trailing skills" that helped locate lost and missing people, violent suspects and evidence vital to investigations as well as his ability to reduce the likelihood of injury to law enforcement and civilians.

The Sheriff's Office posted that an organization called Project K9 Hero has agreed to pay all of Lor's medical bills. Project K9 Hero is a not-for-profit organization that helps with vet bills of retired military and working dogs, the department said.

Deputy Tim Haynes posted on Twitter:

"K9 Lor is in a fight for his life right now. He’s such a good boy and we’re all hopeful."
