Driver's license data and any data that links to it is highly protected, see Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (18 USC 2721 et seq.)

Not entirely what I asked and all data should be protected, but we live in a world where it isn't...Giving an app access to a State database is a really bad idea

quote:Agreed. However, to your question regarding granting permission by use. Such a built in permission should not be allowed under the Federal Act. I would hope the devs would know this. Also, it's likely they are not hitting the license db directly, but rather a pared down view. In any case, I would expect this db to be no less obtainable than any other online db including the actual license db. The data may get out, but someone would pay a dear price.

Yep. Just like your insurance card is ok on the phone.
Is it not? I've been driving around with mine on my phone and have never had a problem when displaying to officers.
Then again...it may be different in KY

I can’t imagine ATC is cool with bars using this for patrons
Hi. Actually, we have been in two talks with the ATC and will have a public statement available from them. They have expressed approval in recognizing the LA Wallet as a legal form of identification when checking for age-related purchases. Of course, TSA is the "Holy Grail" of adoption, right?

Works for fishing and hunting licenses as well.

I enjoy that as a representative of this app and its company, you've managed to show your tech knowledge is really bad, twice in this particular thread..God help the users of your app....

Did I, at any point when applying for a license, agree to have its details shared with a third party? Legit question..If you guys have access to a state database, should we not be concerned with our privacy and protection?
I do not believe you agreed to have your details shared with a third-party and it has not been shared with a third-party.
If you read the Terms and Conditions which you have to agree to before you use the app, you will see that app is transparent. The app only communicates with the state's systems AFTER you have accepted the terms and conditions and AFTER you have entered your license information to the app. It stores no other information about you other than what you have entered in the app, no GPS, no fingerprints.
Our software development practices are also reviewed every year by a QSA and we submit ourselves to the same audit level that Walmart does.
We also want our citizens to drive the next set of features we add to the app. You can do that over at https://feedback.lawallet.com
