Governor Edwards has vetoed a bill that would limit his ability to impose coronavirus restrictions.

The governor's office announced Tuesday that Edwards vetoed HB4, which would give legislators authority to terminate his emergency declarations. The legislation passed both the Senate and House with votes of 23-13 and 54-30, respectively.

In the announcement, the governor's office said the bill "does not represent a serious approach to responding to a public health emergency."

Republicans do not currently have enough members in the state legislature to override a gubernatorial veto, which would take a two-thirds majority.

The Associated Press reports that on Tuesday night, the Senate backed Covington Republican Rep. Mark Wright's bill in a 23-13 vote, followed by House backing in a 54-30 vote.

The votes largely were along party lines, with most Republicans in favor and Democrats opposed.

“It’s no longer a situation where you have to have the governor running the entire emergency response,” House Republican leader Blake Miguez said. “This is to allow the Legislature to get involved in the process.”

The measure heads next to the governor’s desk, where Edwards could choose to veto it. He’s repeatedly said he doesn’t support any attempts to lessen his emergency authority.

What a novel idea. Allowing our elected representatives to have a say in the process.

I wonder why our dear Governor doesn’t like this?

JBE

Still trying to figure out how Louisiana voted in that arse clown to begin with!!

It's not like it was a fluke. The dumbassed Louisiana Republicans helped him win twice. The blame lays squarely at their feet.
The first time the excuse was that his opponent cheated on his wife and wasn't religious enough.
The second time they said the Republican running against JBE was a big ole meany!
