I haven't had Cox in two years, but when I did, I had the mini boxes with every TV already. Why is this considered something new all of a sudden?

Cox has made it clear they will no longer be providing the analog cable signal and the little box is required for those with the old style analog tuner.

Cox has made *no-statement-what-so-ever* on the nature of digital signal provided after the cut-off date.

And this begs the question: Will the provided signal be in the clear (Clear-QAM/QAM)? or will this signal be encrypted? (i.e. require a Cox-approved box) ...

What are the chances Cox is trying to pull the same stunt that Comcast did a few months ago where they required decryption boxes for subscribers?

you get one for free and they are charging 2.99 for each one after that
the box is 2.99 for 12 months then it is 5.99 for each after a year

May as well pay the 8.50 for the regular receiver for secondary TVs to get any premium channels you get on TVs with full receivers. Frikers.

Charter does not do it, be thankful you have the mini box option. I think I paid about $3 for a mini box when I had Comcast.

That's pretty clear.

Except for the locals, Cox has been encrypting all the HD digital channels since forever in the BR market. Once they go all digital, they will be able to legally encrypt the locals as well, and you can count on them doing it. This way, no one gets any benefit of Cable TV without paying for it. Every TV will require a box or CableCARD device as they say on their web site, and every location will have to pay for service.

A lot of people. I know plenty of people that figured out if you have internet, you can hook the cable up to the TV, find and remove the line filter and voila, cable.'

I did that with Charter internet last year. Then they made the digital switch and I lost my free basic cable.

Just another way for cox to make enough money to pay to espn so espn can afford to pay the nfl, nba and sec.

I cannot handle another box/remote in my life. I'll just download all my shows on torrent before I get this box. I also pay for basic cable which will be worthless soon.

Thanks. I read an earlier version of the p.r. that wasn't as clear

This was part of the clarification I was seeking. It is a shame that COX would (likely) choose to encrypt the (OTA) locals.

I really do not watch much TV... usually nothing more than local broadcasts and/or ad-hoc services (like Netflix) and I am inclined to cut the cord.
