We rode it out and left Monday midday. Got caught in the hotel crunch, because we wanted to be close to home for the return trek.

A brief overnight in Gulfport then spent a couple harrowing days in a quasi-shite hole hotel in North Pensacola. The room itself was actually decent enough but everything outside of that was horrible, falling apart with some sketchy people about. So much so I greatly valued having my H&K pistol and large dog, both of which I usually don’t think as much about otherwise. Some senior citizen evacuees that I helped as I could and other normal but displaced types. The area itself was very blighted and rough. We checked out a couple of other hotels in the area that were freaking straight up third world country (is there fourth world?).

In contrast we next went to west Mobile, Alabama. The hotel was old but clean and safe. Funny how you can appreciate these basics. The area was very interesting. You’d think it was a potential victim of urban sprawl or whatever, but it was largely well kept and had most normal stores and eateries as we have in Metairie/Mandeville/Covington. Driving through the surrounding residential areas, the homes were as dated as the ones seen in N Pensacola but the yards were well maintained, no garbage around, people seemed to take pride in their place. West Mobile was kind of an enigma to me.

I can’t believe it’s only been five days. Seems like a month when minutes and hours are spent in tension and stress. Hope all are well and on the way back to normal and whatever positive can be found from such tough times.

I find it fantastic that a normal suburb that is well maintained is an enigma to Louisiana residents

Says a lot about our learned expectations

Your reading comprehension is below average.

It’s the fact that it was potentially a blighted, white flight type area, but because the residents cared and maintained it well, it kept its charm and viability, which is not common.

I am in Baytown and expected a crappy place. Hotel is new and the cleaning crew is on it like I have never seen and I travel alot. Lots of grocery stores and restaurants near us. Yesterday I went to an estate sale in a huge house in a super nice neighborhood. Met an 80 year old lady when I offered to carry her little nightstand she bought to her car.

Bonus that the hotel allowed our kitty cat for a nominal fee. Lots of LA folks and their puppers are here also.
