If you know what you're doing it's not a hard job. Having it doing by a contractor demo your existing floor and installing the new one with materials you're looking around $2,000 I would think.

I installed laminate in my first house all by myself. Had some curved borders and complex cuts. It was still extremely easy to install. Problem was the subfloor. It wasn't perfectly level. Had some dips that weren't really noticeable with carpet, but would cause the floating floor to "flex". Had to pull it all up (took a lunch hour during the week). Hired a guy to level the concrete, who eventually effed it up. Hand to grind down humps that were too high to even out with leveling compound (the dust.....my God, the dust!). And 3 times the price of the flooring materials later, I was able to start putting the laminate back down . I tiled the kitchen, dining room, and master bath. You can cover a lot of the floor's imperfections with tile. But it's a pain to install. Not difficult. Just a pain. And to pay for installation is double to triple what you would pay someone to install a floating floor.
