Can some explain why is it so bad to work from home? I see the same people that complain about this complain about people not having kids or people moving to cities to find work.
IMO, the only somewhat valid arguments are:
-Some work is better done in person. I work in a technical job and in the seven years of WFH, there isn’t anything that works better than having everyone in a conference room together throwing stuff on a whiteboard to try to solve a novel problem. Not saying you can’t do it remotely but that is one thing that does seem to work better in person.
-Some people aren’t actually working. Which is obviously a weak argument because any manager that says this is outing themselves as a crap leader that can’t tell the difference between productive employees and a bad one. Nevertheless, making things harder for employees to compensate for bad leadership is “a” solution I guess.
Other than that, most of the people against it are resentful or are too myopic to understand that many jobs can be done just fine without being in a certain building at a certain time.
