When did you get married???

Congrats

Used to live 1400 miles from my parents and 30-40 minutes from his parents.

Now we are 30-40 minutes from my parents and his parents. My parents and his parents live 10 minutes away from each other.

As stressful as the whole flood thing/relocation of my family has been, the huge positive is having them closer by me(without having to move back to LA). I've def grown closer to them in this process. Used to be I would talk to my mom or dad maybe once a month (if that). Now I'm talking to them several times a week and see them a couple times a month.

Be careful for what you wish. I moved from Little Rock to Mobile to be closer to my parents and sister. Things went well for about 2 years then we got into a huge fight concerning my wife and how I parent my kids. Things got heated, they ganged up on me and my wife, caused a great rift with my daughter, and now none of us speak and this has been going on for over a year. So basically I moved, bought a new home here, make half the amount of money I did prior to moving, and am stuck in a place that I don't know anyone. I would love to move away from here but my son doesn't want to start over in a new high school which I totally understand. It's just a damn mess and I wished I would have never moved that close to my family. Sometimes it's better to keep some distance from your loved ones if you want to keep them as loved ones.

Her parents are dead, but one aunt who takes on her mother role is about 75 miles away. Never shuts the frick up about the money her family USED to have and is still spending the last bit on the the stupidest shite. I'm not about that life. My ancestors helped build the MS River levee, cleared land, were custom wheat harvesters, and farmers. I don't care that you and my wife's grandmother pissed away all of the wealth that previous generations made; I'm working hard to try to carve out my own little piece of the world here... Tacking two zeros on the end of that 75 would be ideal for me.

We live about 50 miles from my parents. Everything is normal and would continue to be if we bought a house next door, or moved further away. My family is pretty down to earth. I talk to my dad about random shite, but mainly farming, two or three times a day.

She has another aunt and uncle who are about 100 miles away and they're good people. When we have kids, I'll be glad to drop those little shits off at their house for the weekend.

I just struggle with that one aunt.

I've been in the Air Force for 17 years and I will probably retire in 3 years if I don't make rank again. Right now, we live in Ohio, my parents and sister live near Tampa and my in-laws live in New Jersey. I really want to move back to Florida when I retire because my parents especially my mother have been great with visiting us wherever we are stationed and taking care of our kids for the wife and I to have a date night when we visit so my kids are really comfortable with my parents, also to keep not having a state income tax, and to avoid driving in snow. But my mother-in-law has been up my wife's arse with moving back to New Jersey and how it's "not that expensive" but she doesn't realize that we are a family of 6 and we need a house that's at least 2,000 sq ft and 4 bedrooms which in NJ is impossible to find unless you live near the projects or make 6 figures, which my wife is a stay at home mom so that won't happen for us until she goes back to school and I get a Bachelor's and a better job. I love my spouse's aunts, uncles, and cousins but I can't stand my mother in law and sister in law so I'm siding with my family in a few years and my in-laws will have to settle with seeing us every other year.
