On one hand

The op is an idiot.

Sales prices of the horses that ran in the kentucky derby

Nyquist: $430,000
Exaggerator: $110,000
Mohaymen: $2,200,000
Mo Tom: $150,000
Mor Spirit: $650,000
Destin: $400,000

and prices for horses have gone DOWN. This is a far cry from 4.1 million dollars for FuPeg or 13 million for Seattle Dancer.

These horses literally cost more than Ferrari's and if you don't think they have the best of the best care possible, I don't know what to tell you.

lol "I went to Churchill". have you ever been to Rood And riddle? Better question, have you ever been handed a Rood and Riddle medical bill lol.

I own two horses

I won't get into how much I paid for her (I bought her off the track and retired her so she can be a broodmare, then bred her, she's a half sister to a graded stakes winning turf horse and she won over 100k herself so she wasn't handed to me for free), I can tell you they legit get better healthcare than I do. If my mouth is sore I drink something cold and suck that shite up lol. If one of their temp's so much as raises half a degree I 'm on the phone with the vet and that's $1,000 when it's all said and done. Half a degree can be nothing, half a degree can be Equine Herpesvirus. You don't take chances. Lil one isn't even in training yet, and between food, vet bills, more food, hay, food lol, stall space, food, breaking the lil one in..not even getting into the stud fee (Surf Cat), my monthly bill is about 2,500-3,500 between the two of them and the only reason it's not double that, is because they aren't in kentucky.

I can assure you, even at the lowest levels, there is no neglect.

Also, very few horses get "put down". If they did there would be nothing to make more horses.

about 99% of all female horses are kept as broodmares, regardless of how good or bad they are. Females in the grand scheme of things, are more valuable then males. I don't care if she can't make it around the track, she has value as a broodmare and hell some of those even go on to have world class babies. Even after she's too old to have babies of her own they generally keep them around as nurse mares.

Most tracks will not allow anyone who sells horses to slaughter to race on their tracks. It's funny you bring up Churchill cause that shite isn't happening at churchill or Belmont or Saratoga or Santa Anita or even Oaklawn.

On the other hand

The people that criticize horse racing have a point, but it's not the point they think they have. Horse racing isn't cruel, but we do produce too many horses. On avg, UK has about 5,500 off spring every year (they don't race half the year, they have a legit racing season from ... march til november, they don't have meets like we have a meet might be 2-3 days or 5 at most like Royal Ascot they don't have tracks that have racing meet round like we do so they don't need as many horses). Australia has about 19,000. And really, that's too many.

The US last time i checked, has 36 thousand off spring born every year.

Of those 36,000, half of them are gonna be colts. Of the 18,000 colts, probably...100 of them are gonna be good enough to be stallions somewhere, and that's being generous.

Another 1,500 or 2,000 will be kept as pets or becuase they are famous to some other horse, i.e barbaro or something.

Another 1,000 will be adopted or donated.

You still got 14,000 or so horses with nothing to do and no where to go after they're done racing.

But to not bred so many horses is taking money out of someone's pocket. And at this level, we're not talking about the Tapits or the Giant's Causeways of the world who can afford it. most 5k claimers or the horses that we're talking about getting slaughtered are coming from state bred farms.. like the ones in Louisiana for instance. A guy that can pay 100,000 for the right to bred his mare to tapit isn't fricked up about having a farm somewhere where all his horses he's raced goes to retire. A guy that is trying to nickle and dime the local breeder down $200 on star guitar lol, doesn't have that type of coin and you better believe once the can't put food on his table he's gone.

But even if you got that fixed, how are horse tracks like Evangeline downs going to fill their cards without cheap horses like this? that's their meat and potatoes. Fair grounds could survive on a condensed card of upper class allowance and maiden type horses. every other track in louisana, or PA or Washington (Emerald Downs) or Iowa (Pararie Meadows) or Michigan (Great Lakes Downs) is gonna be up shite creek. Even though they get slot money they have to have the horse racing revenue to justify having the track open in the first place.

Not to mention the jockeys that can't make it on the big stage that depend on the smaller tracks, the mountaineers and charles towns of the worlds. The trainers there, the trainers grooms there, it's an economic eco system that depends on these horses that you're telling to take a hike.

That's something I personally would be willing to do if i were a commissioner of horse racing. Take a fricking hike. if you can't make it on this track / circuit find another profession. horses should not be slaughtered becuase you can't hack it. But i get it. If you're a congressman from Altoona, IA how are you going to bring a horse slaughter bill to state congress when you know passing such is gonna lay off upwards of 1,000 people who need real jobs to put food on the table? so you look the other way and consider it a necessary evil.

Also, let's not act like new york racing isn't corrupt as frick. Patrick "Snake Venom" Biancone, and frick I like him lol but it happened. Rick Dutrow (big brown trainer) is serving a 10 year suspension from racing. With that said, I think horse racing itself is correcting this.. notice how ALLLLL the good horses now are from California. no one is going to give you a 400,000 dollar horse and let you inject snake venom in it. Besides Doug O'Neil running horses who are obviously in pain from time to time, no one out west is really dirty and they don't frick around out there.

PS - My family owns a large farm off pinnacle mountain in little rock where all my horses will go upon retirement. no vengeanceofrain horses will be sent to slaughter. I'd buy a house and put a fence in my back yard before i did that.

You have no clue about what you are talking about.

quote:

They are very young and frail looking. That is not evident when you watch them on TV.

Rule of thumb is you should be able to see a 2 year old's ribs (not skeletal, but make out a couple ribs when you look). Overfeeding a young horse is worse on a young horse than early training.

quote:

They are very skittish and no telling what drugs they give them.

Nothing to do with drugs....its genetics. That has been bred into them over the centuries.

quote:

To young for that kind of training. Their bones are not all mature yet.

They have vets way more knowledgeable at making sure the horses knees are closed and their skeletal system is ready for training.

The stupidity that is the Kentucky Derby should be protested every year. Basically a party for rich whites to wear stupid hats.

There were 167,000 rich white people there. That is only 1/2 of 1% of the total of the RWL (Rich White Legion.) The rest of our members do stuff like attend Golf and Tennis tournaments, rowing, regattas, and Polo. We wear hats (you have seen our mock sailors caps at regattas) to celebrate our greatness. I am sorry that you are envious but that is life. You should have tried harder.

Now that's just not true. We let the poors in the Infield. They seem to have a pretty good time.

Outside of the grandstand and millionaires row there are very few rich white people there, mostly normal people, gambling degenerates, and drunk as frick college kids on the infield. IMO of the 167,000 people there, only about 1/4 or less are actually rich.
