Depends on your definition of "progress". We really don't know what a super-intelligence is capable of or what might motivate it. If it's just happy to serve us and make us better then it would follow that it would keep our individual personalities intact while we made the transfer. If it's got some sterile, emotionless drive to efficiently learn and create then yeah we're probably screwed and will end up a part of some huge borg-like collective. Either way....
