I don't think we'll ever learn how to properly gauge intelligence. There are several different types and each type thrives under particular circumstances and fail under others.

You are confusing smart with successful. Dude is probably a genius but lazy or can’t function in normal society beyond bagging groceries. I have met many really smart people way more intelligent than myself but they can’t work with average people or relate to them.

One of my friends graduated in Electrical Engineering with a 3.95 GPA, went to dental school and then trained in orthodontics. If not for the woman that runs his practice he would be homeless, and probably starve to death.
