Ask for her Father's blessing if she comes from a traditional family. It will forever be a gesture he will appreciate, and she will too.
That being said, the rule is not to do a proposal in front of the public, unless its a quiet spot in a park or something. Don't embarrass your Soon to be fiancé, nor yourself.

Ours was pretty boring. I was living there in Austin, she was here in Shreveport. She flew in for a visit. I picked her up at the airport and told her that before dinner I wanted to show her this great view of Austin. I took her to the scenic overlook there on Capital of Texas highway and dropped the ring on her.

I proposed in front of the LSU clock tower at night! We went out for sushi and I told her I wanted to bring her to see Chinese acrobats in the quad!!! She fell for it and I proposed! I'm glad see didn't really think the acrobat thing through because with all the low lying trees in the quad there would be Chinese peeps stuck in limbs everywhere, lol
