How concerned should I be about my ac?

Last week I try to take a Friday off. Summbitch is on the fritz. Units running and running. Fan not kicking on. I call my landlord who is also my next door neighbor and someone I get drink with on the reg. And by reg we get hammered all the time. He sends his go to company over. They replace the fan motor, capacitor and the disconnect switch. Running fine.
Until today. Come home. Hot in the apt. Fan motor still not kicking on. Smells like some burnt plastic. Guys come back out. It's not anything they replaced. Now they say the control board is fried. 2 days to get one in. Which I think is bullshite because all I do is order parts and tools so I almost tell this guy to nda the shite under my work ups account. The coil was froze up. He turns it off. Runs the fan and just said to kick it back on in a few hours. Should be good until the board comes in. Well that was around 6. The unit has not kicked off in 6 hours.
I just looked at the coils. They aren't bad at all. The thing that intrigues me the most. When I try to shut the unit off it just keeps running. The burnt smell still prevalent. I honestly could give a frick about this unit or the coil. I'm not paying for any of this. The whole thing is probably shot. I just don't want to burn to death while I sleep. Should I shut it off at the breaker?

Do you know where the breaker is?

Your capacitor is stuck. That is why it won't turn off. The contacts aren't releasing from each other. If you are that worried, cut the main power to it.

Those darn sticky capacitors! Can't trust them.
