Hey 777.
Gotta question for you. I'm about to drive 15 hours with one of my daughters and then fly back. I would certainly prefer to take a pistol with me while we're on the road that long, but I'm leery about the procedure to fly back with a pistol.
Suggestions.... Aside from putting it in my waistband and hoping for the best.

Srsly, is it a hassle to check it?

I think the firearm has to be in a hard, locked case(unloaded of course,) ammo can't be loose or in a clip/mag, and I think you have to declare it in person with an agent, don't hold me to that but I think that's about right, are you driving a rental that far? leaving your vehicle and coming back?

Not a rental. She is interning with the company for the summer. She has been with them for a year, remotely, and they asked her if she was interested in working at the home office for the summer. I'll drive with her, fly home. In August, the perpetually delightful Mrs LCA will fly up and ride back.

okay, so leaving it in the vehicle probably not preferable, I don't think it's a big deal or hassle, just google the airline's policy and allow time to declare with the agent, no surprises, have all of your ducks in a row

No. It's her car and will remain 15 hours away for the summer. I'll probably just go without on the road.

I don't think checking it is a big deal as long as you abide by the policy

Yeah, I googled. I don't have a lockable, hard side case. Plus I usually just pack in a pillow case which isn't very secure...

might check with the airline to see what is acceptable as a lockable case, a friend of mine, retired cop, always recommended having a weapon in the car, long before conceal carry/open carry, and the law stated it must be in a lockable case, where we live(Texas,) he said a hard plastic case with a sliding latch qualified, I got one pretty cheap, probably from a WalMarks or some pace similar
