I know it's been tough sledding for the Gaels the last few years in baseball .. I know the MAAC still does those 9 inning/7 inning doubleheaders on weekends .. I remember when the SEC did that years ago .. i hated that shite ..

Yeah, not too much to cheer about as an Iona fan in baseball. Jason Motte is still in the bigs. He caught at Iona and the Cards made him a short reliever. I saw that the Cubs picked him up. Not sure that he'll ever be the same after his elbow problems in 2013.
I saw that Mariano Rivera III just got drafted by the Nats. Not sure if he'll make it in the bigs. His Dad says he's a good pitcher, but I doubt he'll ever be his Dad.

It's a shame Rivera lost that one season when he blew out his knee shagging BP flies .. His career numbers would be even more incredible .. If you're a big league team, you have to take at least a flier on Mariano's kid .. but, we all saw how that turned out for Pete Rose's offspring ..

yeah, "PJ" Rose had his problems. But he went the drug route rather than gambling. MR, III has a big shadow to live in. His Dad insists that the kid is the real deal, but I would hope anybody's Dad would take that position. I'd like to see him make it with the Nats.
Though a native NYer, I've never been a Yankee fan. But MR was a phenomenon.

Only a handful of guys in the history of baseball had the long long term success MR had as a closer .. and even those guys didn't do it as long as he did, with the same team his entire career .. and, as he got older, he really didn't have to reinvent himself .. he just threw strikes, and nibbled ..

I think ole boy has limped away with his tail between his legs .. Fred nailed him yesterday .. Sad thing was, the posts you and i had in there were incredibly harmless that he RA'ed .. he called those "personal attacks" ..

I just thanked him for the heads up to go ahead and plan my beach vacation since his predictions were as accurate as PJ's sports prognostications ..
