This. I called a contractor, I tinker but highly tensioned springs holding up a door that can serioulsy hurt somebody warranted an expert.

Replace the part which is at the end of the bracket attached to the door and moves along the screw bracket. The teeth on this part become worn out. Had to replace one on my Genie opener recently for about $20 and did it myself.
