Patton knew that the Russian supply and transport system was no better than what the Germans had, even with all the Lend Lease assistance we gave them.
If we pulled that assistance and attacked them, we could have beaten them.
ETA: Also, remember that when Patton suggested this course of action, the US was still the only country with the ability to make nuclear weapons. It wouldn’t have taken much to make them give in.
