Old vehicles with mechanical odometers do increase mileage by being flat towed. Newer vehicles with electronic odometers do not increase mileage by flat towing.

I feel like this shouldn’t be as hard as it is - If the meter counts wheel rotations, the transmission is irrelevant. The wheels are rotating as it is being towed, right?
The odometer would have to be connected to a sensor in the transmission that records revolutions of the driveshaft - which would explain why the speedo and odo are off when you put on larger tires.
