Who cares, they are just going to sell your info to the highest bidder.

I guess I should say, who is the best internet provider in Baton Rouge

Not Comcast, Xfinity or whatever they want to be called

I haven't lived in the BR area for 5 years now. Does Eatel (fiber) go into BR yet? If so, definitely go with that. Second best would be Cox. Stay far, far away from ATT.

I've got the "Preferred Internet Service" from Cox and it's $77.99. I believe it's gone up recently and I've been thinking about switching to something else. Like everything else with Cox, the prices are higher than giraffe pussy and I no longer have the student discount. It's relatively fast, but I've got everything connected via Ethernet and rarely use wireless. Cox wouldn't be my first choice, but as someone else mentioned, I've heard bad things about AT&T.

My experience has been just the opposite. For years, Cox was the only option. I had the preferred also. It wasn't particularly fast but not terrible either. My main issue with Cox was that I would lose service regularly. Not for long, just a few seconds at a time. For most people, it would be barely noticeable, but when I work from home, it is through a vpn. So every time the service cut out for a few seconds, I would lose everything I was working on. ATT ran gig fiber to the neighborhood several months back, so I switched to that. It's $20 more than Cox, but I made up the difference by switching tv to uverse. I've had it for several months now, and I have no complaints. It has been fast and reliable.
TL;DR: If someone in your area offers fiber, do that.
