Everyone has an inner dialogue - your family member just voices theirs outwardly. Maybe just focus on the thoughts you are hearing expressed instead of the fact they are voicing them aloud. That really seems to be the root of the problem.

They say that people who do not have an inner monologue are the true psychopaths. Or sociopaths. Or whatever.

As for talking out loud, everyone does it to some degree. I often find myself saying out loud “what a fricking retard” when I scroll the OT or PT. It be what it be.

The biggger concern should be their negative self talk. If they were able to transform that to positive self talk they could probably triple their income and start banging some hot 25 year old piece of arse.

If you bring it up to them don’t lead off with “hey talking to yourself out loud makes you look insane” instead go with “I notice you have been pretty negative with your self talk, have you considered changing it to a more positive self talk?”

Then give them a copy of Shad Helmstetter’s book and have them listen to about 20 podcasts with Peter Crone. Your welcome.
