Probably wouldn’t make a ton of difference in this case. Even in “deregulated” markets you still have the grid operator, a utility, that would seek to recover storm costs.

Fuel costs are what they are. Natural gas is up from $3.10 to $8.54 over the past year. Considering that’s the single largest operating cost for power generators (at least for gas plants, which make up about half of the state’s output), it shouldn’t really be surprising that electricity costs are going up.

I know nobody really wants to hear that, but it’s the unfortunate reality.

Right because the PSC totally just takes Entergy at their word when they set rate base pricing and increases. It’s a really neat meeting where they ask Leo how the kids are doing and after small talk he just asks for rate increases because “boy you see how crazy the market is” and the PSC is all like “Sure no problem.
