Are non-nursery licensed homeowners able to pay their wholesale prices or would it be a waste of time to drive up there? They have their wholesale prices on their website but also state that while homeowners are welcome, only licensed people will pay their wholesale prices. I always thought anyone could go there to pay those cheap prices. Guess I was wrong?

Dowell Robinson of Forest Hills (rapides) will give you good prices. Really nice guy.

Cheaper than retail, not as cheap as wholesale.

Many professionals do not use Doug Young, but instead use many of the surrounding nurseries. The smaller nurseries are willing to deal and offer much better prices than Doug Young, but yes, you need to know the price to negotiate on and who to call for what.

The wholesale price you see listed in DYN catalog is what you will pay + 10% (sales tax) as it is a retail sale. Licensed individuals do not have to pay the sales tax.

Definitely worth the trip up to buy if you have any significant amount of plant material to buy, as prices are about 1/3 you’ll pay retail at garden centers.

BTW, you might want to request the admin to move your thread to the Home and Garden Board - might get more info on other nurseries in Forest Hill that sell to the public at significantly discounted prices.

I think they had a lot of damage due to the ice/snow last month, as did most nurseries in the area. I’d call and check before driving there for sure.

They took a major hit with the cold/ice. Extensive damage & they lost a lot of plants. Might want to call head of time to make sure they have what you need.
