Recent news story about a local older fellow returning to college:

Centenary College is sharing the story of John P. Smith, a 67-year-old man who started college as a freshman nearly 40 years ago. He’ll be receiving his diploma during commencement ceremonies May 3.

Smith returned to Centenary in the summer of 2024 hoping to get his bachelor’s degree in political science.

Smith became a widower in the winter of 2022 and said if she were still alive, he may not have gone back to school. He knew he needed to move forward somehow though.

“One of the things about it is achievement,” Smith said. “I’m a very big competitor, especially in the game of tennis, and I don’t like things left over. I didn’t finish this thing. And I finally get to finish.”

What the hell were you waiting for?

I know you are probably joking but I was perfectly fine 3 years ago doing my job and making a good living. All of a sudden that wasn't good enough for the people I work for and the people I live with wanted something different.

Finished my BS last year, will finish my MBA at the end of June.
