Here's the more complete story from another thread:
Senior year - our senior cruise. I caught a big Amevia lizard in Puerto Rico at El Morro castle and smuggled it onto the boat and on the flight home from Miami in a small camera case. In our room, I kept it in the ice bucket with a towel over the top and a belt wrapped around it. On the day the cruise was done, while we were at breakfast the cabin steward was cleaning the room and pulled the towel off the ice bucket, the lizard jumped out, he freaked out, and the lizard escaped. I was walking down the hall back to our room and one of my roommates comes running down the hall yelling, "They found your lizard!" Then they brought a bunch of customs guys and ship officials into the room and I denied it even though my room mate ratted me out. They kept questioning me and I just said, "I don't know anything about it - someone must have put it there to play a joke on us." After they left, I started searching the room and found the lizard under the bed, hid it in the camera case, and hid out elsewhere on the ship til we got off the boat. On the flight to Miami, we all had to wear suits, but on the way home they let us dress however we wanted. Everyone else was on the plane in shorts, and I was in a suit so I could hide the camera case in the pocket on the inside of my jacket (it was about a 6 inch leather case for one of those little Vivatar cameras back in the '80s). When we were back at the New Orleans airport, I showed my science teacher who was one of our chaperones. She didn't freak out or anything since she was a big reptile lover, but she said if I got caught it would have been a $20,000 fine
