(KUSA/NBC) – Colorado Parks and Wildlife were debating between electroshock and chemicals to kill the thousands of goldfish pushing the native fish out of Boulder's Teller Lake until this week, when they discovered that the pelicans nesting there are taking care of the problem for them.

"This is kind of Mother Nature taking care of things for us," CPW spokesperson Jennifer Curchill said.

The biologists that monitor the lake were out taking samples of fish there this week and saw that the number of goldfish dropped off significantly.

"I don't think any of us would have thought in just a couple of weeks pelicans would have cleaned the whole thing up," she said.

When I initially went to link the story, I thought hey had introduced the pelicans. It was an accident, I guess. Pelicans are everywhere here.

Man, what I wouldn't give for that stuff to work. Growing up in the 80's, I never realized that the greatest mallard duck shoot in the world existed in that generally square area made by I-10, the St. John/St. James Parish line, Lake Maurepas, and Reserve Canal. Thanks to Salvania, there is now not a duck left in that country.
