One of the most important things you can do is follow recovery orders.
And take the stool softeners. When the pain meds constipate you it's a poor time to strain.

It's all good. Have a great family to help. Dr said I will never be able to pick up more than 30 pounds.

what would cause me to not heal to the cadaver bone? I went back for a follow up and X-rays have shown for 6 months that I have not healed to the cadaver bone. That’s why they are going back in. Plan is to use the “cages” with my bone graft.
Hard to say why your fusion didn't heal the first time. Using nicotine, taking NSAIDS, or strenuous activity too early are factors that can increase the risk of not healing. However, it sometimes just happens even when none of those things are done. Typically, treatment for a symptomatic case is a revision ACDF using your own bone (which has a better healing rate) or doing a posterior fusion using screws/rods. Both ways are acceptable, and sometimes surgeons decide to do both.

This has been an interesting read
Although luckily, I haven’t had any experience with back pain. My ex-girlfriend has several broken vertebrae from a car accident several years before and she consistently complained about pain. It became hard to know when she was really hurting or just being a complainer. She would have random pains in her side that were sharp and seemingly excruciating. They would come and go and I think it was traced back to pinched nerve in her back. She was never really offered much more than mild pain meds and a bit of P.T. at one point, which she said hurt so bad she stopped going. I felt really bad for her, but again, this girl ALWAYS had something to complain about health wise (migraine, low iron, nauseate stomach, etc) so I grew a bit unsympathetic although that was probably wrong of me. I just know the struggles she apparently went through and hope that you can can find true relief.
To a non medical person, it’s weird hearing y’all talk about this like parts on a car.

Amen! Any idea how hard it is to do a self enema with a neck brace on AND high on pain pills! It was a bad day...
