I've worked on ICE's since 1976 and have yet to see one spontaneously combust.

I agree they are very well built batteries with quality parts but they still offer zero protection if not used exactly as intended by the manufacturer. I’m surprised a good lawyer hasn’t had a heyday with this when so many dangerous adapters are available all over the country’s largest three retailers.

Stay away from cheap Chinese crap.
Also, AA and AAA lithium batteries have a lot of safeguards built in as do modern 18650s, etc.
Battlebornes are super safe if you do your part. As are modern 24 and 48 v builds using the right chemistry.
