So you type on A1234 (made up code) and it says "Allowable will be $500. You have met $233 of your $6000 deductible. Your out of pocket cost is $500." Then you can call around and see if anyone has a cash price less than $500.
Except then BCBS wouldn't reduce the costs from your deductible.
$500.00/month premiums = $6,000.00 per year, + $6,000.00 deductible = $12,000.00/year before the insurance company pays the first cent. That's not insurance, that's Mafia.
The person in that situation would be better off just having catastrophic insurance and paying out of pocket (uninsured) for routine doctor's visits and buy a prescription drug plan from whichever pharmacy they use.

A 30 minute visit in a surgery suite at an ENT for a simple routine non-emergency procedure costs $15,000 in facility charge. And because you have two ears, thus two procedures at the same time, you get two facility charges totaling $30k.
Does not include the surgeon or the anesthesia!
Providers are straight up ripping people off.

My kid's old pediatrician charged $100 for visits. Dual practicioner, non corporate.
Moved 30 miles away earlier this year.
New pediatrician charges $300. Part of large well-known children's care network... you'd think economy of scale or synergy etc would make them even more competitive.
Straight up price gouging.
