I would trust the airlines, but I also guess I don't see a scenario where I'd need to send my less than 12 year old anywhere via plane where I wouldn't take them?

I think it would be used pretty often by happy couples who just send their kid off to visit grandma for a week or two. I went to a summer camp where like a third of the kids were flown in alone.
