How did you get over your fear of flying?
First flew when I was 34; I'm 65 now. Never totally did get over my anxieties. But I fly when it is necessary. Am always amazed and pleased at how quickly one can get from point A to (desired) point B when you fly. I try to focus on the positives. Have flown from NOLA to Dallas. From Louisville, KY to NOLA, Pittsburgh, Chicago, NY, Charlotte, Tel Aviv, Israel. From Atlanta to London and to Nairobi, Kenya, and Tampa. From Tampa to Boston, to NY, to Salt Lake City, to San Francisco, to Albuquerque, to Oklahoma City, to Tokyo; from Tokyo to Naha, Okinawa, to New Orleans, to Atlanta, to Miami.

Yes. Sometimes more/better than others. I got what you said about loss of control and am pretty much over that. But my main, biggest scare button thing about flying is always turbulence. My pilot son in law tells me that it's nothing more than little waves in the air, like feeling a light chop on the water in a small boat. Except sometimes, it's been more like a heavy chop and I hate that.

I hate getting stuck in the gotdamn airplane, just sitting there on the tarmac or runway with no inclination when it will move again. Really the only time in life I have to take a xanax or I would wig the hell out.

NO to Dallas that ended up in San Antonio?

Houston to Jackson Hole. Wind shear caused by a storm just sitting at the end of the runway.

I looked over the aisle and saw a 90-year-old woman all chilled back. Figured if she ha done it, then I had no reason to fear.

And, yes, I still get uncomfortable for the reasons you've mentioned.

I am afraid of driving, not flying.

When you fly, there is an expertly-trained professional handling it, and an equally expertly-trained professional next to him to take over if anything happens to him.

When you drive, you are potentially at the mercy of the biggest idiot driver on the road that day.

Also, I am impatient and driving literally makes me crazy- I cannot stand being in a car.

From NOLA, the furthest I'll drive is Houston. Anything further, I'm flying.

This is my brother in law's problem. Hell, he starts shaking when he gets in an elevator. Lack of control issues. Very strange.
