The reality is that in the NFL you can't really compete without a top tier QB.

We need a really bad year so we have a least a shot at picking a qb that could become elite.

Purdy isn't a top tier qb.
I think a top tier qb is the easiest way to to compete, but i think it can be done in other ways. Now you can't do what we do on offense with a middle of pack qb and expect success.

Yes and no. Brock Purdy and Jalen Hurts, even Tua are not transcendent QBs but they are in systems that make life as easy as possible for them.
