Cut and paste for you lazy bastirds.

The New Orleans Saints are open to the idea of giving their running game an "Edge."
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told FOXSports.com that the team is still considering making a contract offer to free-agent running back Edgerrin James.
"We've spent some time evaluating Edgerrin," Loomis said Tuesday morning. "We think he can still play. We're going to continue to evaluate that and see where it ends up. We haven't made a decision on Edgerrin yet."
In an expected move, James was released last month after the Cardinals drafted Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells (first round) and LaRod Stephens-Howling (seventh). James is the NFL's active rushing leader with 12,121 yards, which also ranks 11th on the league's all-time list. James, though, turns 31 in August and isn't believed to have drawn strong interest in free agency.
James could be a nice fit in New Orleans, which didn't draft or sign a replacement for the released Deuce McAllister. Loomis, though, expressed confidence that Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush could carry the Saints' rushing load. A five-game starter last season, Thomas scored nine times and gained 625 yards on only 129 carries. Bush generated 844 yards from scrimmage in an injury-plagued 2008 campaign.
"Every time Pierre has had the opportunity to play, he's performed really well," Loomis said. "I think he was one of the leaders in the league in not getting tackled for a loss among running backs (in 2008). He's not the big prototype back that Deuce was but we're confident that Pierre can do some good things for us.
"Obviously, Reggie is an explosive back and he's had a real strong offseason so far. I know he's looking forward to the challenge of carrying the ball a little more."
James was unhappy last season with his role as a part-time back in Arizona splitting carries with rookie Tim Hightower. James repeatedly asked for his release before it was finally granted.
James enjoyed a strong finish to the 2008 season. He averaged 67.2 rushing yards in Arizona's final five games and started all four postseason contests, including a Super Bowl XLIII loss to Pittsburgh.
James played the past three years in Arizona, producing 2,895 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. James reached four Pro Bowls during his first seven NFL seasons with Indianapolis.

This is a terrible idea for both parties.

It's cause he was splitting time with a freaking *rookie*

I'm a poster of the people EB. I know what my readers want and that's not to waste the energy clicking on links.
BTW, I have been against this signing for a while now. I'm starting to change my mind a little. The NFL these days has a minimum of a two back system, with more going to three backs. A good rotation of Bush, Thomas and Edge would be very nice and would take some pressure of Drew(not that Bressus needs it). I know we have Bell and others such as rookies so I know this could go either way here. I'm starting to come around that's all I'm saying. That being said, it's all dependent on if Edge is willing to take that type of role, which he wasn't in AZ.

This would suck. Waste of time.

And if it's true it's even more retarded and the Saints should run from this like an AIDS patient in a room full of immigrants carrying swine flu.

I used to think that too. But still it is looking as the Saints are more interested then we originally thought, or at least I thought.

i'm just not sure about this one....if it were say three years ago, i'd be ecstatic...but this dude's gettin old....but he was incredible while with the Colts...

Dude, we have 5 RB now. All young. All that can make plays when put on the field. Ask yourself. What can Edge do that the other FIVE backs we already have cannot? Nothing. If they can get him cheap, and he doesn't mind being a raincoat, then I guess it's ok with me. I just think we still need to bring in some more help on the defensive line or LB area especially since Arnoux is done for his career.

I'm torn.
He was a great RB with the Colts and probably has a year or two left and wants to show the Cardinals what they missed out on so he would give it his all. And when was the last time the Cardinals had a running back worth a damn. Hell, Thomas Jones didn't do anything there, then goes to the Bears/Jets and does awesome.
That being said, he did pretty bad in AZ and benifited from Peyton in Indy and he's getting up their in age.
I could go either way on this one.

Hes one of the greatest blitz pick up RBs in the league something tht only Thomas is really good at for us not to mention he has a lot more experience than the others on our roster and would be a good addition with Thomas, Bush, Bell, and James on the roster with one of the young big guys on practice squad again

ozymandias104....excellent point...many fans don't think about some of the other things a veteran RB like Edge could give us like succesfully picking up blitzes, always knowing your assignment, postseason experience...all while still being able to get the tough yards...

quote:Brees has been the least sacked QB since he's been in N.O. Pass protection isn't a good enough reason to sign a back that was bitching about splitting carries with another back. In N.O. he'd have to split carries with 2-3 other backs.

Do I believe he's got a little left in the tank. Sure. I think he'd be a great pick up for someone else. Just not the Saints.

Good only if :
a) Low short term contract
b) Used in very limited fashion, short yardage, passing situations
if Edge agrees to this it really makes me wonder why.

And as good as Edge once was, he's no better than Bush or Thomas in any of these situations. Signing him would only bring depth via a disgruntled employee.
