I guess that makes sense. But, if I'm a veteran player, the rookie contract stuff doesn't affect me.

Guess then the rooks are lucky that the current players care about the Union as a whole and not just who is in it now

First-round picks now will sign 4-yr deals, with options for a 5th-, that will decrease their money 40-50% from last yr. Vets get $ instead.

wow, first one that comes to me is Jake Locker. Coulda been #1 last year and got a Bradford-like 6yr/$78mil with $50mil guaranteed. Now as #8 he'll get about 5yr/$20mil with $12mil guaranteed. Poor guy

Is Locker the one that was hell bent on finishing to get his degree?

Vets get the money now cause league agreed to raise the cap floor. Last decade many teams got away with spending on the cheap see Bucs from 06-09.

Without agreeing to raise the Spending floor, players had no guarantee owners would take the money saved on rookie deals and spend it on veteran players.

This CBA gave both sides chance to agree to raise the floor and cut rookie deals.
