In my humble and useless opinion I think Brees should not see the field no matter how he feels until the Kansas City game, and frankly if we are anything but 11-2 going into that game and Green Bay still has not lost then maybe he should sit until the following week when we play the Vikings then rest again for the Carolina game.
A first round bye may be a tall order at this point and this year is all about a Superbowl. Brees being well rested and healed heading in to the playoffs in my opinion is more valuable than fighting for slightly better seeding and a banged up Drew Brees.
