With our cap constraints you see us going after another big name corner?

And I really know anything about Butler so I can't speak on him

Butler or Asomgughahaha and I'll be happy.
And Keenan Lewis! We would literally have won all of free agency.

(without cutting Greer)
Currently we'd only save about $1.5 mil by cutting Greer. Highly doubtful.
Not saying we would cut these guys, but these are the players that would save us the most right now:
Jenkins- $2.5 mil
P. Thomas- $2.5 mil
Sproles- $2.25 mil
Strief- $2.25 mil
Rescinding the offers to Ivory or De La Puente- $2 mil
Everyone else would save us under $2 mil. Come June 1st a lot of these numbers would change, but that doesn't help us in FA now.
I really don't see anyone else getting cut(now). We have maybe $5.5 mil left in cap space with about $3.5 mil needed for draft picks. We can maybe sign one more FA on the cheap.

What about restructuring Greer?

Young up and coming LB. potential to be a badass.
Dick Lebeau wants him in Pittsburg and I'd be willing to bet its to be there future starter.

As in pay cut like Vilma/Smith or pushing money back?
His base is $3.6 mil so even if he did agree to take less it wouldn't save much, and I'm not sure pushing money back on an aging corner(especially since we have found his eventual replacement) would be wise.
He does have 3 years left though so technically we could save a bit by pushing money back.
Say we took $2.25 mil of his base and turned it into a signing bonus, we'd save $1.5 this year but have $0.75 mil added to each of the final two years.
There's other guys we could do this with also.

Ah, I wasn't taking into account Jabari's "dead" money. Now I'm even more sure they won't take another corner.

Well if it's structured anything like the Lewis and Will Smith restructured deal then yeah.
If Loomis can get the 2013 cap hit somewhere around $3 million, it's possible.
Nnamdi would still have to be paid over $7 million per year, I'd expect.

Definitely done on the corners. I think signing a corner was our second option after going for an olb(Kruger). Seems we were priced out of that market.
This move gave us a way to upgrade a position that looked weak last year(though I believe will be stronger with going back to man) and an eventual replacement for an aging and expensive vet.
It's possible we snag a third tier olb still but they may feel better at this point just drafting someone.
I'm more interested with the LT situation. Do they feel we have someone on the team? Do they take one with the first round pick? Do they take a chance on a late round prospect they feel projects well? Or can they do some magic and fit a decent FA into a small contract?
Pretty sure those are the only two positions we'd even try to get a FA from.

We've seen the front office make some out of nowhere moves before when we didn't really think it was possible. I won't get my hopes up, but if they make another big move it wouldn't surprise me.

But in prior year's we didn't have Bree's huge contract. He was "cheap" at about $10 mil last year, but this year he's costing us $17.5.
They've already redone about 5 or 6 guys and got 2 to take pay cuts. Without touching Brees' contract there is no way to get a huge chunk easily right now.
We'd have to redo about 3-5 more players(outside of Brees) to do anything significant. That's just putting more strain on future years when Brees' number is even bigger.
Not saying it's impossible, but it's way less likely now than it has been in the past. It's great to have a top QB, but in the last few years they've also been a curse. There's only so much cap and if you have a top QB you damn well better do good in the draft.

@49ers: #49ers have signed former Bengals LB Dan Skuta (@DSkuta51) to a two-year contact. #freeagency

Just to give some perspective, Brees' base salary is $4.5 mil higher than the next player at $9.75(Harper at $5.25).
His signing bonus is $5.4 mil higher than the next player at $7.4(4 players at $2).
His cap figure is about $9 mil more than the next player at $17.4(Smith at $8.5)
Those are some huge gaps. Is he worth that much? Every damn penny. But we have to accept that FAs aren't going to be as easy to come by as they were in years past. And it'll only get worse as his numbers climb higher.
