He ran like a 4.95 40 at LSU's Pro Day. He has potential as a weapon in the passing game, but he pretty much screwed himself with that 40. I had to do a double take after I saw his results.

Saints could re-sign Strief.

I'd rather use a 3rd on T...I prefer DE, CB, LB with first 3 picks.

DeSean Smith ran a 4.95 forty?? Damn, I figured him to be in the 4.71 range. The kid has great natural talent as a pass catching TE, needs work on his blocking and needs to get a lil bigger as he is about in the 6'5" 240 lb range. I think he needs to get over 250, but that kid can catch the ball like Jimmy Graham. He never got the chance to show it because of LSU's heavy run based system, but he could have developed into a top pass catching TE, that 40 time shocks me. Lol

Strief is under contract this year and next. We don't need to resign him. But at the start of the 2018 season he'll be 35 so we NEED to find a replacement this year or next.

We need to make sure we have a guy in hand before we are caught in a bad spot.

I thought so, but assumed otherwise cause everyone was saying we needed a replacement for 2018.

Third round pick for two years from now seems good to me. There is time for other moves via FA or draft if the pick doesn't work out or if Strief drops off a cliff.

And it's still possible they re-sign him then too. Not likely, but possible. Look at Whitworth's deal. Strief also didn't play too many snaps his first several years in the league.

Where is LSU's Pocic projected to go? I like his versatility. Could literally back up every position on the OL and potentially take over for Streif in '18. Are there other guys in this draft that provide similar versatility? I wouldn't hate taking someone like that in the 3rd.

And when do Armstead's injuries become a serious concern?

While I agree it's not a need in this year's draft, we should not overlook it next year and put it off until 2019. That could leave you scrambling and if we manage to retain Brees that would be a very bad thing.

Plus Payton said he wants to try to grab an Olineman this year.

So yeah, want this year, need next year, must in 2019 (and you don't want things getting to must).

Pocic is projected for the third but could potentially go in the second (all depends on how teams rank the lineman).

On Amrstead, the injuries are a concern but we have two other legit starting LTs in Peat and Kelemete (both of whom are natural LTs). Both have started at LT in Armstead's absence the last two years.
