It does not help Payton to let it be known that there is only one team he would coach for.

Think this through, those of you who believe that our leverage is negated because he has to agree to go to a team first. He will never make it known which team he wants the most. If he did so, it would negatively affect his salary. He knows the more teams that think they have a chance, the better for his bottom line. This is big boy contract time. He is not going to short change himself one cent by narrowing it down to just one team even if he has narrowed it down to one team.

Payton can name his price. Any team that wants to play hardball on salary is the exact type of team he won’t want to go to.

It's not about playing hardball, it's about having as many teams believing he would be there coach as possible.

He wants the amount that is insane to ask for. The kind of money that only a team scared of losing him to another team would pay.

This also plays in our favor because Loomis can capitalize on the compensation we get in return when the potential bidding war ensues.
The question that remains: will Loomis, Loomis, or use the leverage to our favor in getting the best picks and value possible?
I'm hoping Loomis proves me wrong that he'll get pennies on the dollars for Payton's value.

My biggest worry about that is if he knows he will be taking a job wherever Payton goes, will he ensure that the saints pick or picks don't hurt his new team to much. It's a weird situation to be sure.

Salary is the least of the concerns.
The team that wants him the most will be willing to beak the bank for him.
The concern is the compensation that the Saints will receive

I agree with that. The hope is his need to get into a bidding war for his services helps us get the best picks from whoever wins that war. Once they commit a crazy amount of money for sean, then we hold them ransom for what we want.
