He is an option QB, not a wildcat back.
When is the last time a NFL team ran an option?? Probably the last time a QB got killed.
Also, he would be taking a roster spot for someone who could actually help the team at a position of need. QB is not a position of need.

This statement only strengthens my opinion that we should have let someone else sign lance moore so we could have gotten that 2nd round pick

doesn't lance moore like it in the pooper?

Glad you and Lance are not the GM and Head Coach.
We have one of the best QB's in the league. We have a "slash" player in Reggie. vick's passer rating and completion percentage would have been the lowest in the NFL last year.
Then a guy who is on probation and goes out and smokes pot, knowing he is going to be tested, is not the brightest light on the Vegas strip.
No! No! No!Never

Drew Brees in shotgun with Vick and Reggie on either side, with Colston and moore split out wide, and Devery in the slot =

Im not sold on this Wildcat formation fad right now..We all kno its a copy cat league and defensives in the NFL are to fast not adapt once they gameplan for it more...And any formation thats takes Brees of the field, im not a fan of.
i agree

I think we should def pick up Vick, We're going to need him when Brees goes down in week 2!

I respectfully disagree with Lance Moore. I think we take a big risk that he'll be a distraction, even if it's no fault of his own, just the nature of his situation. In my opinion, the benefits of having him are not worth the big distraction he can become. We already have an elusive satelite player in Reggie Bush and Drew Brees is one of the best QBs in the red zone so, it's not like he'll get red zone snaps. I don't see where the benefits are worth the risk.
Big picture-wise, I don't see how Lance Moore can say this.

Drew Brees is firmly entrenched as the starter. There's zero threat of Vick taking his job, he won't have to be the face of the franchise, low risk/high reward situation.
Drew Brees was fricking horrible on 3rd and short and 4th and short last season. Not really his fault per se, but he poses virtually no run/sneak threat like an Aaron Brooks did.
Vick would open things up to a ridiculous amount. I would go so far as to say that a Vick run/pass option rolling to the left would be virtually unstoppable - especially when you put Reggie and Pierre in the backfield and have Shockey and Lance as short pass options (in addition to Vick's scrambling). That roster/play would have at LEAST a 90% success rate if practiced and oiled to perfection.
If we convert on 3rd and short last season we go 13-3 and have home field advantage. Signing Vick would be a wonderful move.

Im all for Vick being able to play this year. The fella served 2 yrs. I dont' even think he should be suspended any further by the league BUT, Im stunned that so many people want to pick him up. I too, am glad Lance Moore is not the GM

Again, with him running the offense on 3rd and 1 last season we'd have won at least 3 more games and gone 11-5 with a bye.
Washington, Denver, Minnesota, @ Tampa, @ Chicago were all games where short yardage conversions would have meant a win instead of a loss.
We did not sufficiently address our power running game this offseason. Evans is a finesse FB when compared to Karney, our offensive line remains finesse, and our RB's are unchanged. Vick would fit perfectly into our current finesse skillset and would guarantee at LEAST a 75% conversion rate on 3rd and 2 or less. Probably higher.

there's no guarantee that Vick would be the difference in converting those 3rd and 1's. He can be stuffed just as easy as our backs, maybe even more so because there will be less threat that we'll be throwing the ball with him in there.
