He will need a very productive year to warrant an extension worth 5+ mill a year.

He's 32 but will turn 33 in November, so that's a mistake. Pro Football Reference had him listed at 33.

On Roddy, he still turns 33 though and that surprises me. For some reason(maybe because he acts like a young punk bitch) I thought he was like 29 or something.

On the extension, if he can hit 70+ catches, 900+ yards he will certainly have earned $5m per.

He's had one year where he's had less than that and he missed 5 games that year.

Hopefully he retires a lifelong Saint and one of of the best ever to wear the black and gold. But if he wants to to stick around and collect a check I could honestly see Loomis sending him somewhere. Which would suck.

What do you consider diminishing production? He's not that old and his game does not rely on speed. I don't think Brees' love affair with Jimmy is an indictment of Colston's abilities. Who wouldn't prefer throwing to a 6'7" target with basketball athleticism?

Right it was pretty par for the course. His ypc was only the third lowest. It was lower in his second year where he caught his most balls for his highest yardage total.

His catch total ranked 5th out of his 8 seasons so he's had lower, one being his rookie year.

Yes his yards dipped under 1,000 for the first time in a season he's played at least 14 games, but it was still 943 yards and less than 100 lower than 2 other years(outside the 11 game year) and within 200 yards of 2 other seasons(4 total and again outside of the 11 game season.).

So it was actually a very par for the course season for him. Middle of the road in catches and ypc.

And it's obvious Jimmy ate into everybody's tds in the redzone. Those are all throws Drew used to throw Colston's way, but he still grabbed 5 anyway.

Injuries hampered his numbers at the beginning of the season.
He really lit it up towards the second half.

But I guess you could argue these injuries are becoming more and more of a problem.

I'd take an injured Colston over a ton of healthy guys. He's only missed more than 2 games once in his 8 years and only missed 5 games that year.

And despite all that he has some of the best numbers in the league over the last 8 years, even last year.

I agree but I think the front office will keep him around the locker room (something Joe Horne should have done)

He would benefit immensely from not having the opposing teams best outside cover guy on him.

I'm not sure who teams had on him most of the time, but he played 56% of his snaps from the slot.

And that wasn't just a new thing last year. Since 2007(as far back as PFF tracks) he's spent between 51% to 64% of his time in the slot.

That also means he spends a bunch of time on the outside(between 36% to 49%) also.

Can't say I've paid much attention as to who teams put on him and I'm sure different teams defend him differently.

I would say aside from the couple of teams that put their top corner on Jimmy, Colston would be the guy that likely drew a team's top corner more often than not.

I don't see teams putting their top guy on Moore or Stills(especially since Stills drew more deep coverage so you didn't need your top guy with safety help).

No real point to this other than to point out some interesting things.
