Has There Been A More Snakebit Franchise?

In all of professional sports, has there been a more snakebit and unlucky team than the Saints? Other than that one magical season in 2009, every other season has ended in utter disappointment or heartbreak. Take for example Drew’s last 4 years with the team. They won the division all four years and made the playoffs. How did those seasons end? Minneapolis Miracle, No Call, Close loss to Minnesota, and getting beat by the Bucs at home. Drew’s last seasons wasted.
The fact that the Saints didn’t even win their first playoff game until after more than 30 years says it all. Drew Brees and Sean Payton ushered in the Golden Era of Saints football, with lots of great memories, but so many of those seasons ended with broken hearts.
I know plenty of other teams had their ups and downs, but the Saints have had a lot more downs than ups in their history. Maybe we’re not God’s team after all lol.

I agree, they have some seriously bad luck, BUT:
Minn - garbage tackling. Hmm, seems familiar 7 years later.
No call - should have never come down to one play. The Saints had that game in hand until arrogant SP wasn't prepared for a fake punt, Drew noodle armed the ball to MT, and multiple other Saints blunders that game.
Minn - Again, an unprepared team letting Cousins embarrass them. And of course, add in a push off not called.
TB - pussy Jared Cook should have been tarred and feathered. But again, one play shouldn't dictate an entire game where the Saints, as they have since 2010, choked in the playoffs.

I thought about the Bills too. Losing 4 Super Bowls in a row, plus having a LONG playoff drought, what was it, 18 years?

Have you ever Hornets/Pelicans? Haven't even gotten out of the 2nd round in 22 years. It's at least on par for Nola professional sports.

Try being the Detroit Lions or Cleveland Browns.

We won a Super Bowl. We're not even close to the most snake bit franchise.
At some point having an average GM that is too big to fail because our clueless owner trusting him implicitly in all things going to come home to roost.

Good points. There is one particular season I’ll never forget that was uber disappointing. The 2002 season. Through the first 13 games, the Saints were 9-4. All they had to do was win ONE of the final three games to make the playoffs. Not a one of the final three teams they played was going to the playoffs that year. They proceeded to lose all three games and miss the playoffs. They had beaten TB twice that year, who went on to win the Super Bowl.
Haslett’s era was very snakebit I feel. That one awesome first season with the first playoff win, after that… mediocrity at its finest.

In true New Orleans misery fashion, we should make a documentary about the 2011/beginning of 2012 season. You had the Saints and LSU looking like the best teams of all time and then it came crashing horribly down.

Browns (their own fault), Lions, Vikings, Bills (4 straight SBs, no rings), Chargers, Jets
