Graham will get paid, but the franchise tag for TE is around 6 million I believe. We should have some good leverage there

not gonna lie, I know its a business but if Graham puts up another monster year I'll be pretty pissed if we don't reward the guy and try to leverage/lowball/franchise him.

They aren't going to low ball Graham. He will get taken care of. They have taken care of all of the offensive pieces except Nicks. They won't pick up Smith's option and that will free up a lot of money.

My point in saying that Graham is going to get paid is to emphasize that, whether franchise tag or long term(even backloaded), it will make it even tougher next year to fill the other holes and add upgrades.

everyone knows this. We'll just keep pushing contracts back, cut will smith, and hope to push the big cap hit until Brees' retirement

There are going to be a lot of factors in Graham's next contract...no matter what he will be a Saint. He is one of those players you make room for no matter what. It will most likely not happen during the season and could even come down to he being franchised before FA next offseason.

I can't imagine being able to beat the open market.

that's why they invented the franchise tag

that is how the salary cap and parity are sposed to work. That's why there's no Yankees or Bosox in feetball.

Tough cuts are a part of success. See New England. Baltimore minus Kruger, Boldin, Ray, mcKinnie, Birk, Ellerbe, pollard, Reed, etc ain't nuttin to sneeze at

Yup that's the point I'm trying to get across blues(baltimore). You can only push so much before you have to make cuts/let great players walk.

There may be prettty big turnover next year and I'm not talking about guys like Vilma and Smith.

so where would the turnover occur? There isn't anyone who is a salary cap hog outside of maybe greer and harper. Jenkins becomes a free agent.

So on the chopping block would be bunkley, smith (gone), vilma (free agent), jenkins (free agent) and possibly greer. I don't think we're cutting anyone on the offensive side of the ball.

I don't think it will be near as drastic as you seem to think. Worst case is Brees restructing and pushing it another year
