I know, for a damn fact, that the ref thought he deserved a T.

I do. He also did it to keep the interest in the NBATV game last night. He did it to keep an MVP candidate on the court.

What risk? That people on message boards or Pardon the Interruption would question him while he cashes a huge fricking check?

Zero.

Assuming Houston and Memphis win home games as decently-sized favorites, the Spurs would have to win Wednesday to avoid the 6 seed.

The Spurs do not hold the tie-breaker over Memphis or the LA Clippers, so they'd be the 6 regardless of what the Clips do tonight in Phoenix.

I mean, being the 6 seed would keep the Spurs on the opposite side of the bracket as Golden State (which I'm sure they want). However, I think they'd rather do that as the 2 or 3 seed with home-court advantage in the first couple of rounds.

You act like scorned employees have never whistleblown on their former employers.

What the frick does that have to do with anything? You think the ref used to work for Russell Westbrook?

No I think if Silver made the call to rescind the technical based on nothing but NBATV ratings, that kind of information could get out and be detrimental to his young career as commissioner. That's risk that's not worth the reward.

You think Silver went around the offices knocking on doors to tell people "I am doing this for ratings, but don't tell anyone"?

My point is that this is the kind of move a commissioner makes withour input or consultation.
