Kobe being clutch is just some absolutely incorrect myth that just continues to grow (maybe in part due to the tragic death), despite all evidence to the contrary. I remember seeing a stat many years ago (maybe the same one you saw) that totally disproved that.

It really comes down to statistics and percentages.
Jordan shot a bit under 50% from midrange for his career and Kobe shot a bit above 40% from midrange for his career.
If you go and look at the statistical breakdown, BI is actually in between the two. He’s a better midrange shooter than Kobe and not as good as Jordan.
So in an end of game situation you would expect those percentages to hold up or perhaps even drop some since the shot may be rushed. It’s not like Jordan and Kobe’s FG % magically increased in the final 10 seconds of a game decided by less than 3 points.
